Protect Your Pets During the Fourth of July

As you prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July, don't forget that it can be a hard day for your pets with all the loud noises, bright lights, and unfamiliar smells. The number of strays increases significantly around this holiday, and our Animal Shelter is already at full capacity.

Take a moment to read over these safety tips and make a plan for your pets so they can also have a safe and happy Fourth of July!

• Celebrations happen for more than one day. Be alert before and after the holiday.

• Keep your pets secure. Pets can panic with fireworks and loud noises. Dogs run and cats hide.

• Check around your home for any loose fencing or possible escape routes for your pets.

• Collar, tag, and updated microchip information is needed.

• Be aware of the summer heat and place your pet inside if possible.

• Pick up firework debris. If your pet gets ahold of any left over pieces from explosives, it could be hazardous. Remember!

Fireworks are illegal in Waco city limits, and property damage could result in a fine of up to $2,000 and/or jail time.

Let's make this a safe and fun Fourth of July for both you and your pets, Waco!
