Fine Forgiveness Month

  1. What is Fine Forgiveness Month?

    From September 1 to September 30, 2024, Waco-McLennan County Libraries are welcoming back its overdue books and the library users that read them.

  2. How does it work?
    • Bring back any overdue library materials to any of our libraries.
    • The library will forgive all overdue fines on your account. Fees that are excluded are: Fees for damaged book replacements and Interlibrary Loan (ILL) fees or fines, copies, scans, and/or faxes.
    • If your library card has been suspended due to overdue fines, it will be reactivated, and you can begin using it again.
    • If you need a card replaced, the fee will be waived as well.
  3. Who is eligible?

    All Waco-McLennan County cardholders are eligible to have their overdue fines forgiven for items returned from September 1 to September 30, 2024. Additionally, cardholders with pre-existing fines can also have their fines waived.

  4. Do I have to go into the library, or will my fines automatically be waived or forgiven?

    If you have an overdue item or an existing fine, please visit the or contact one of our staff members so we can ensure that fines are forgiven on your account.

  5. Can I have fines forgiven for others?

    Yes, if you have that person’s materials in hand, or if you are the guardian on a child’s account.

  6. Where can I return materials?

    You can return overdue materials to any Waco-McLennan County Library:

    • Other libraries in the county are not participating in this initiative.
  7. Which fines will be cleared?

    Overdue fines for materials that have been returned will be forgiven.

  8. If I lost or damaged my library card, can I receive a free replacement card?

    Yes!

  9. What items and fees are not eligible for forgiveness?

    Items and fees not eligible for forgiveness are:/p>

    • Overdue or lost materials that have not been returned or replaced.
    • Damaged items which have been assessed a replacement or damaged fee.
    • Fines and fees associated with Interlibrary Loans (ILL’s), copies, scans, and faxes.
    • Non-resident and short-term resident annual fees.
  10. What if I paid my fine last month? Can I get a refund?

    Unfortunately, the library is not able to offer refunds for fines that have already been paid.
