Station 6 has a long history of serving part of North Waco. It was established in 1909 as the Colonial Hill Fire Station and began operations in early June 1910, located at the intersection of 18th and Bosque. The firefighters worked out of this station for 31 years.
In October 1940, the city commission approved the use of bond money to fund the relocation of the station. By April 1941, Waco City Commissioners approved the city manager's purchase of two lots at 28th and Bosque to construct the new station. The construction bid was awarded that month, and the new station opened in early August 1941, utilizing some bricks and materials from the original site.
In April 1987, the station temporarily closed for remodeling, during which the crew relocated to Station 8.
In March 2017, the department expressed the need for a new Station 6 at a different location to improve response times. The following year, the city purchased the former 25th Street Theater at 1006 N. 25th to build the new station. Construction began in mid-2020, and a grand opening was held for the new station on March 23, 2022.
