2026 Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge: Summer of Stories

The Waco-McLennan County Library is inviting the community to take part in the 2026 Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge: Summer of Stories, a free summer-long reading program designed to keep readers of all ages engaged, learning, and having fun throughout the summer.
The challenge officially begins June 1 and runs through July 31.

Celebrate the People That Keep Waco Running During Public Works Week

Celebrate Public Works Week from May 16–23 starting with the annual Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day on Saturday, May 16, where residents of Waco and neighboring cities can safely dispose of hazardous materials. Other activities include the Meet the Machines event and a citywide scavenger hunt.

City of Waco Offices Closed for Memorial Day

City of Waco offices will be closed on Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day. Some City of Waco services and contracted partners have alternate schedules.

Herring Avenue Bridge Update: Westbound Closures to Begin May 26

Published on May 14, 2026

Construction continues on the Herring Avenue Bridge over the Brazos River. Starting Tuesday, May 26, the westbound side of the bridge from N. MLK Jr. Blvd to N. University Parks Drive will be closed for about one month. Once the westbound side is complete, the closure will shift to the eastbound side for about two months. The Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge: Summer of Stories is a free program at Waco-McLennan County Library. Sign up on Beanstack or in person starting May 30, then begin reading June 1 to earn prizes every 10 days. Enjoy story times, performers, and family-friendly events all summer long through July 31.
