Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

• Assumes the technical responsibility for planning, coordinating, preparing, reviewing all phases or components of traffic and transportation projects, including engineering reports, calculations, plans and special provisions in accordance with City, State and Federal standards, regulations and codes.
• Review development plans and building permits for conformance with good traffic engineering principles.
• Develops and implements traffic and transportation planning ordinances, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines as it relates to the existing traffic system and new development.
• Directs personnel responsible for the following activities: A) Design, operation, and maintenance of the City's traffic signal system. B) School crossing safety system. C) Investigation and analysis of traffic related issues. D) Design of traffic control signage and markings. E) Coordination of the City-wide street lighting system.
• Attends meetings and public hearings representing the City as assigned or required; represents the City as staff liaison to the Downtown Development Corporation, Metropolitan Planning Organization, Chamber of Commerce, etc..
• Assists in managing the bid process, construction contractors, and assuring the overall integrity of the projects and services provided.
• Works with Police Department to determine appropriate installation of traffic control devices.
• Conducts traffic signal warrant studies.
• Responds to inquiries from citizens and agencies on traffic related issues; investigates public complaints or concerns on traffic signals, signs, railroad crossings, pavement markings, or other traffic-related items, and responds with explanatory letters.
• Conducts traffic and transportation planning studies to warrant and prioritize the need for new roadways and traffic signals. Implements traffic signal timing for existing, temporary, or proposed traffic signals.
• Develops and implements traffic and transportation planning ordinances, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines as it relates to the existing traffic system and new development.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Follows City and departmental policies and procedures.
• Works in climate controlled indoor and in outdoor environments. May be exposed to dust, loud noises, vibrations, fumes and odors, communicable diseases, wetness/humidity, darkness or poor lighting when working in a warehouse environment.

REQUIRED:

Driver’s License:Valid Class C Texas DL

Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

Experience: Five years previous work experience in an engineering field is required.
Certifications: Professional Engineer License is required.

Testing: No testing required.

Physical Demands: Light

DESIRED: Two years of experience in municipal traffic engineering is desired.
